History of the Tallest Buildings
In today's post, we show some of the tallest sky-scapers in the world and the progress that Asia has made over the years in the world's tallest category. It is really amazing the way that Asia is catching up with the west.
History of the Tallest Buildings
Ever since the 1800's the US has been the home for the tallest buildings. But during these last couple of years this tradition has stopped. Asia is now the capital for tall buildings. With so many countries competing to hold the title, it is becoming impossible for buildings to hold their title very long. Currently the Empire State Building holds the honor of being the tallest for the longest, 40 years. Just to see the rise of Asian skyscrapers, here's a list of the 10 tallest buildings in 1990 compare and the 10 tallest in 2005. ...Find out more....

Top 7 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Getting Hired
This is a great article from the "The Top 7 Business Website"
Top 7 Ways to Increase Your Chances of Getting Hired By Joel Sussman
It would be a lot easier if hiring decisions were totally based on one's resume (unless, of course, you're right out of college). The reality of it, though, is that the successful candidate is often the one who interviews the best. Here are some tips to help you make it to the final cut.
1. Visit the web site of the company you're going to interview with. Almost invariably, one of the first questions out of an interviewer's mouth is: "So tell me what you know about us." If you stumble through your answer, consider yourself eliminated from the running.
2. Be ready to rattle off your strengths and accomplishments. This is one of the main things an interviewer wants to know, so make sure this information is fresh in your mind.
3. Do you have any weaknesses? Everybody does; but only applicants who want to be eliminated in the first round of interviews will reveal a weakness that could, in any way, affect their performance in the job they're applying for.
4. Don't even hint at any personality conflicts or disagreements you might have had with your present or past bosses. Interviewers often are predisposed to side with former managers. If the question comes up about whether you've been involved in conflicts at work and how you handled it, it's highly recommended that you portray yourself as the peacemaker, the conciliator, and the diplomat.
5. Put a positive spin on your answer to the question "Why do you want to leave your current job." One of the many impressions you don't want to convey is that you're a job hopper.
6. Be ready for variations of the following questions "Why should we hire you?" "Convince me that you're right for the job!" "How do I know you can handle these new responsibilities?" "I have 25 more people to interview. What skills or qualifications do you have that make you stand out?"
7. Leave for the interview early, so you can have plenty of time to get lost, get back on track, creep your way through road construction, crawl through traffic jams, fix a flat tire, and arrive at the interview early. You'll want to have a few moments to fill out any necessary forms, compose yourself, and make a quick, last-minute grooming trip to the bathroom.

Web-Cam Over The Antarctic
This time, I am going to share with our members a web-cam that shows the Antarctic. The view is quite rare and is awesome. I am sure many will enjoy the pictures.
The picture is captured using a video camera at the station and sent via a permanent satellite link to the Australian Antarctic Division's Headquarters located at Kingston, Tasmania.
This picture is usually updated automatically every 10 minutes. The date/time on the picture shows local Davis time, which is 3 hours behind Australian Eastern Standard Time and 7 hours ahead of UTC (GMT). During winter the daylight hours are very short. At times drifting snow, or equipment malfunction may interrupt the picture.

What An Enjoyable Fabulous Gala Dinner - Hope All Had A Great Time!
Our Alumni just had our annual Gala Dinner last Friday in the Raffles Town Club Ballroom. It was a fabulous evening with many corporate guests (the corporate sponsors), ex-HP employees and their invited guests.
There were endless "hi", "how are you", "long time no see", etc, when old friends met, presumably after a long time. Groups formed and started to chit-chat joyously and enthusiastically. Loud laughters were heard from some groups that appeared to be having a great time and enjoying themselves. Others were moving around, looking for old friends to catch up with the old times.
Our Chairman, KBH and our President, WNL were also busy attending to the VIP guests, as well as mingling with the guests, shaking hands and exchanging niceties. HJK and KET were also seen busy, ensuring that things ran smoothly.
The food and entertainment were first-class. There was a 8 course dinner and entertainment by a 5-member Shanghainese ladies. Everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. As usual, there was also a best dressed Female and best dressed Male (according to the theme for the night: "One Night in Shanghai".)
Then there was the lucky draw where lucky dinners got to win wonderful prizes.
Finally, it was time to say good-bye. Friends shook hands and slowly drifted out of the ballroom. "Do keep in touch and hope to see you again", could be heard over and over again.
Hopefully, all had a great time and will be back again next year.
(I forgot my camera and was not able to take any pictures. If anyone has some pictures and like to share with members, please email them to me. I will post them here and into our SHPA Yahoo Group site.)
Did you have a great time? What do you enjoy most? Have your say.
